Blog 4 working with graphs

Hello, class my name is Aaron and we will be learning about graphs today. Two common graphs we see are multiple bar graphs and line graphs. Lets say you wanted to compare salaries between men and women. In a multiple bar graph, you would use two bars for each job salary, one would correlate to men's earnings and the other would demonstrate women's. Like below the blue bar would represent men and the red would represent women. Instead of the week number on the x-axis, you could replace that with job titles and they y-axis with amounts of money. Then you could get the average earnings for men and women in that particular job space.

You could use a line graph to display the same idea. On the y- axis in the picture would be amounts of money and the x-axis would be the year. Therefore, you could follow the line to see the increase, decrease or just the amount received for that given year. One line would represent women and another could represent men. Both these graphs are helpful in this particular situation for comparisons. Line graphs have several different ways to show different topics over time and can be helpful in comparisons  while the multiple bar graphs often are used to compare two data sets.

  1. Good job on the visuals! You explained graphs in a very simply way that didn't make me confused so thank you!

  2. aaron,

i like your example. you did a good job of explaining the usefulness of these graphs, but there wasn't really an explanation of how to create them, which should have been included. other than that, nice job.
