-Therefor we have better gun control
4) It is valid and sound that if we have better control of guns/more regulations then there will be less deaths in the United States due to guns.
5) If we have more fun control, Then there will be less homicides.
6A) The statement is not a tautology
6B) In my opinion it makes sense in real life to have better gun control.
6C) When some truth table is a tautology then it is fully true.
7.1) It appears that the source I am using is in fact credible. As I read through the pros and cons of both sides of the argument they sound correct.
7.2) The information was written almost 7 years ago, and a lot has changed since then so I am sure the information can be updated and reevaluated.
7.3)The information is valid however, it is simply out of date
7.4)No I dont believe the site is bias it lists the pros and cons for each side of the argument which makes sense to me.
7.5) I have stepped back and evaluated the information and everything is copesetic in my opinion.
8) Yes, I believe the argument is a fallacy because in section 1A of the textbook it says that a heated argument is a fallacy. No doubt is the on going gun control debate a heated argument.
9)At first I didn't realize that this assignment was intended on helping me think more critically about media however, by the end I did start to notice some interesting things about the site I was looking at and whether or not I could depend on it. Although, I have always kept a concious eye on what media is actually trying to impose on us. In the end in some aspect it did help to think more critically about media and assignments I do having to do with it!

ReplyDeletereally interesting blog post and so relevant with all of the things going on in our society in this present day. i am glad that you were thoughtful about your conclusions for the last part of this assignment and am pleased to know that the more you researched, the more you saw how information in the media can be skewed.
the only issue that i saw in the beginning of your entry is your discussion of the validity or not of the argument. the way that you wrote the syllogism, it's actually in the
all a are b
x is b
x is a
form. hence, this is a converse statement, which is always INVALID. all in all, though a very thoughtful and in depth post. =]
